New Office Suite Completed At Savoy Street
The Duchy of Lancaster has recently completed the refurbishment of several floors at 9 Savoy Street to provide contemporary open plan office space in one of London’s most historic and prestigious addresses. Located between the Strand and the Embankment, the original building was built in the 1920s and forms part of a large split-level block which also houses the Duchy’s administrative headquarters.
Historically, the second floor of 9 Savoy Street was home to multiple small offices with no external space. The interior has now been converted into a bright open plan space of 4,980 sq ft with a new private stone-built terrace overlooking the River Thames. Two parking spaces in the basement of the adjacent building at Brettenham House have also been converted to provide shower and cycle storage facilities serving tenants within the building.
Commenting on the project, Duchy Head of Urban Mike Andrews said: “We are delighted to bring this new office suite to the market and would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and commitment to the project. The new open plan space has been designed with today’s working practices in mind and we were very keen to be able to add some external space to capitalise on the spectacular views on offer. We also wanted to provide high quality cycle storage space and shower rooms to reflect the growing numbers of people cycling into this part of the city. As a result we believe this is one of the best designed and equipped office spaces currently available to let in this part of the city.”
The team involved in the design and delivery of the project included architectural firm ORMS, contract administrators Quartz and contractor 21 Construction. All works were delivered whilst observing strict Government guidelines on social distancing and travelling to places of work.
The Duchy’s Head of Project Management Graeme Chalk congratulated the team on the quality of the finished project, saying: “This was a very challenging project not only due to the nature of the work involved but also the exceptional circumstances of delivering the construction during the Covid-19 pandemic. Project Manager Peter Russell at 21 Construction did an exceptional job of managing the works to the highest standard of finish.”
9 Savoy Street forms part of the Duchy’s historic Savoy Estate, which also includes a number of office and retail buildings on Lancaster Place and the Strand. The ground floor of the same building, currently let to STV, was fully refurbished and let in 2017.
