Stewart McGarrity Appointed Interim CFO
The Duchy of Lancaster has appointed Stewart McGarrity as Interim Chief Finance Officer from 1st May 2021. Stewart will take over the role from previous incumbent Chris Adcock LVO who has been in post since 2003.
Stewart has 35 years of experience as a Chartered Accountant in senior financial positions across a broad range of organisations in the UK and overseas. Following a number of years with Deloitte in Zimbabwe and Hong Kong he joined the Airport Authority in Hong Kong for the duration of the construction and business development of the new airport and the development of information systems for airport operations.
On returning to the UK Stewart spent 6 years at property company MEPC, first as Head of Management Information and Financial Planning and then with an extended role as Group Financial Controller. Since leaving MEPC he has held CFO roles in transport infrastructure, oil and gas exploration/gas storage development and low carbon chemical production.
Commenting on the appointment Duchy CEO Nathan Thompson CVO said: “We are delighted to welcome Stewart to the Duchy team. His expertise and experience will enable us to build on the foundations Chris has helped to put in place in recent years. First-class information systems are critical to the management of any successful business and I have every confidence that Stewart and his team will continue to develop these as we move forward.”
Chris Adcock leaves the Duchy to take up a new appointment as Finance Director of leading national charity, The Charterhouse. “We are clearly sorry to lose Chris,” Nathan added. “He has a long and excellent record of service to the Duchy. As he takes up a new challenge at The Charterhouse, we wish him well and thank him for his invaluable contribution to the business over almost 20 years.”
