His Majesty The King Visits Pickering, Goathland and Cloughton
His Majesty The King visited the Duchy of Lancaster’s Pickering, Goathland and Cloughton estates in Yorkshire for the first time as Monarch and Duke of Lancaster yesterday.
During the private visit, His Majesty met a number of tenant farmers and took a brief tour of the holdings, which included a mixture of arable, livestock and hill farms. His Majesty also inspected the woodland at Pickering Woods before joining 25 Duchy farming tenants from across the Yorkshire Survey at a private tea reception held at Fields Farm on the outskirts of Scarborough.
Commenting on the visit, Duchy CEO Mr Nathan Thompson CVO thanked all those who took part: “On behalf of the Duchy Council, I would like to thank everyone for their positive contributions, particularly those who hosted elements of the visit. This was a very special day for our farming tenants and an experience they will remember forever. We are also very grateful to the Yorkshire Lieutenancy and local Constabulary for their support and guidance throughout the day.”
The Duchy of Lancaster is a private estate owned by His Majesty The King, as Duke of Lancaster. Since 1399, the title Duke of Lancaster has been held by the reigning Sovereign. The rural estates across England and Wales consist of agricultural farmland, residential and commercial properties, the majority of which are in Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Lincolnshire.
